The luxury of what cannot be seen (but can be smelled)

This morning, while we were finishing setting up the breakfast table, a guest approached me, closed his eyes, and let out one of those deep sighs:“Here it always smells good… it smells like firewood and freshly baked bread.”

That comment made me think. In a world where everything enters through the eyes, where we are saturated with screens, notifications, and bright lights, at Masia Can Pou we have chosen to focus on the invisible.

Why you won’t find a TV in your room

We are often asked why the rooms don’t have a television. The short answer is that we don’t want to compete with the landscape of the Llémena Valley. But the real answer is that we want you to regain your other senses.

When you turn off the visual noise, magical things happen:

• You start to hear the creak of the wooden beams in a house that has stood since the 17th century.

• You feel the texture of the linen sheets and the coolness of the stone walls.

• And, above all, you begin to notice the aromas.

The “perfume” of Can Pou

That smell of firewood mentioned by our guest isn’t just heating; it is the aroma of old-fashioned hospitality, of the fire that brings people together around a conversation. And the smell of bread… well, that is the aroma of Eirene and Donatello’s patience. It’s knowing that what you are about to eat has a process, that it hasn’t come from a box, but from an oven that understands time and care.

Disconnect to smell again

We live so fast that we have forgotten what silence smells like. At our masia, luxury isn’t having 500 TV channels at your disposal. Luxury is that your only “notification” is the aroma of coffee in the morning or the smell of wet earth after an afternoon of rain in Canet d’Adri.

We know that giving up technology, even for a few days, can feel a bit dizzying. But we promise you this: when you stop looking at the screen, you begin to see (and smell) life in a different way.

And you, how long has it been since you just stopped to breathe?

We are Eirene and Donatello, and since 2018 we have cared for Masía Can Pou to make it the refuge where we would want to lose ourselves.
